CHINESE FOOD

Matt's travel journal -- 3.4.2002

Right now I'm in some small town in the middle of I don't know where in China, near the huge dam they're building and the three gorges which will cease to exist when the dam project is done.  I have another two weeks in China, but here's a little something fun for the meantime before I relay my experiences in China.

CHINESE MENU:  I've enjoyed actually, literally seeing the following on menus:

 - Chicken claws
 - Chicken neck
 - Jelly pigskin
 - Sauteed pig intestines
 - Fish-taste pig liver
 - Homestyle pig brains [mm mm mm -- just like Aunt Bessie used to make 'em!]
 - Braised lion heads
 - Braised blood bean curd with garlic
 - Ants-climbing tree
 - Man & wife lung slices

I'm sorry to report that fearless me has not had the gall to indulge in any of the above, but:  tonight I ordered chicken with peanuts, and the meat that arrived -- some white, some brown -- tasted LIKE chicken, but not EXACTLY like chicken ... uh oh, what did I just eat??!!!
